Know how many days you can still spend abroad

For most routes to UK settlement you can't be away more than 180 days in any 12 months. Tracker UK180 counts every day for you, so one long trip doesn't cost you years.

0 / 180 days

An example year. Each square is one day; the dark ones were spent outside the UK. The limit applies to every 12-month stretch, not just the calendar year.

In the UKAbroad

The rule is simple. Counting it isn't.

The Home Office looks at every possible 12-month period during your qualifying years. A trip in February can still count against you next January.

Only whole days abroad count. The day you leave and the day you come back are treated as days in the UK.

A trip from 1 to 5 March is 3 days of absence.

Check your last 12 months, free

Enter up to five recent trips. We count the whole days you spent abroad in the 12 months up to today. Nothing is sent anywhere; it all runs in your browser.

0 / 180 days

Add the dates you left and came back to the UK.

This quick check only looks at the last 12 months. The full tracker checks every 12-month window across your whole qualifying period, tests future trips and keeps your record for the application.

Questions

Why do I need to count my absences?

For most routes to settlement you must not spend more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12-month period of your qualifying years. If you go over, your continuous residence can be broken and the clock may start again. Counting by hand across several years is easy to get wrong, and the application asks you to list your trips.

What if the qualifying period changes, for example from 5 to 10 years?

You can change the qualifying period and the absence limit in the settings at any time, and every result is recalculated straight away. If the counting rules themselves change, we will update the tracker and you can download the new version.

I've been in the UK for years already. Is it too late to start?

No. Add your past trips from passport stamps, boarding passes, booking emails or bank statements, and the tracker checks every 12-month window back to your start date. If you are unsure about old dates, you can ask the Home Office for the travel records it holds about you through a subject access request.

Can I track my partner or family too?

Yes. The licence covers your household, so make a separate copy of the spreadsheet or tracker for each person. Each copy keeps its own trips and visa dates.

Can my solicitor or adviser use my record?

Yes. You can send them the spreadsheet itself, or print the interactive tracker's report to PDF. It lists every trip with dates and whole days abroad, so they can check it against your application.

Which visas does it work for, and what if mine isn't listed?

It is set up for the 180-days-in-any-12-months rule used by Skilled Worker and most 5-year routes, and has settings for 3-year (Global Talent, Innovator Founder) and 10-year (Long Residence) routes. Family-route rules can differ, so check the guidance for your exact route. If your route has a different period or limit, you can set your own in the settings.

Is this legal or immigration advice?

No. It is a tool to keep an accurate record and do the counting. It counts every absence, including ones the Home Office may disregard, so it errs on the safe side. Before you apply, check the current Home Office guidance or speak to a regulated adviser.

Is this a substitute for a solicitor or adviser?

No. Tracker UK180 keeps an accurate record and does the arithmetic. It does not assess your eligibility or give legal advice. For questions about your own case, speak to a regulated immigration adviser or solicitor.

Where do the counting rules come from?

From the Home Office's Appendix Continuous Residence and the caseworker guidance on continuous residence, linked in the "Based on official guidance" section above. If the rules change, we update the tracker and you can download the new version.

Does it work on Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. The spreadsheet works in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. The interactive tracker opens in any modern browser on a computer or phone.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your device: inside your spreadsheet file, or in your browser for the interactive version. Nothing is uploaded. The interactive version has a backup button so you can move your data to another device.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once and keep the files, including updates to this version.

What if it doesn't work for me?

Email us within 14 days of purchase and we'll help, or refund you if the files don't work as described. See terms and refunds.
